|Writing comics, I naturally gravitated to reading pulps. After the first thrill of discovering a new world, I found that Doc Savage usually kept my interest, the Shadow did not - and the Spider beat them both. Not all the time, and not continuously - Richard Wentworth was so over the top that a reader is forced to come down through sheet fatigue. But if you treated him like bon bons, and cleansed your palate in between, and especially if you read the early ones, he was an amazing thrill ride that never for one minute slowed down.
When asked to write one myself, for this fun anthology, I tried to live up to that standard.
