Slash™
(Roulette™)

This character began as a strip for the same guys who were going to publish FANTASY ILLUSTRATED until they ran out of cash. It involved a woman who was shot through the eye and clinically died, but came back. Thereafter, whenever she "looked" at anyone with her empty eye socket, they died. Her name was Diana Rulitski and she was called ROULETTE.

Later, I wanted to introduce a version of the character into COYOTE™. There, her name was Dunya Rulitskaya but she was called SLASH - because now she was a Russian agent and "Roulette" wouldn't have made any sense.

ROULETTE was drawn by Don Heck, and a Xerox of his art is below. (I cleaned it up as best I could but it was a crummy Xerox.) I thought Don was a great artist from the moment I first saw his Ant-Man strips, and was always excited about working with him. This page shows why.

But when I did the SLASH story, I gave the assignment to a brand-new artist, doing his first-ever job. His name was Todd McFarlane.
